Each person in the team has a very different role to play. We operate a meritocracy. Consequently, members of the team who show dedication, ability, and performance, can and will progress to the highest levels.
The legal environment is changing fast and technology plays a huge role. We need bold individuals who can anticipate, plan and adapt to such changes across the legal, social and political spheres. Creative thinkers who can revolutionise the way we work are the future of our business.
Heads of Department
Our Heads of Department are primarily responsible for managing their teams, client relationships and business development.
Each of our them has a proven track record as a successful lawyer and client and team leader.
Their strengths and qualities include leadership skills; wisdom and maturity of thought and judgment; being highly respected based upon strong a reputation; a team player; and commercially aware and astute. They are skilled in business development, entrepreneurship marketing, and the management of clients, people, finances and risk.
Each of our Directors also has a track record as a successful lawyer, a client and people manager and as a committed team player.
They are also able to demonstrate good business development and marketing skills, client retention and management skills, entrepreneurial skills and have a proven ability to train, supervise and manage other lawyers and support staff.
Associates / Senior Solicitors
There are the front-line lawyers that our Heads of Department and Directors depend upon to deliver first class legal service.
They have the knowledge, skill and ability to undertake their legal work and manage projects both individually and as part of a team.
Our Associates are potentially the future Directors and leaders of the Firm.
Our solicitors work closely with our Heads of Department, Directors, Associates and other team members to deliver our services. They are often the main point of day-to-day contact with clients and are responsible for keeping the matters progressing smoothly.
They have the benefit of being trained and working alongside our senior lawyers and peers, and we would expect them to progress to such levels as the firm grows and they grow.
Trainees are based mainly in our Harrow and Eastcote offices working alongside lawyers across our departments.
Trainees will have the opportunity to work in at least 3 of the firm’s specialist areas of law covered by the firm and will also have an opportunity to be exposed to other departments.
At this stage in their careers, we do expect trainees not only to experience as wide a variety of work as possible, but also contribute to delivering legal services. They are essential members of the team.
We have a number of paralegals in various practice areas in the business. Our paralegals provide an integral role in supporting our qualified lawyers and they, in turn gain great exposure and a wide range of responsibilities. Whether you are a career paralegal or an aspiring lawyer, you will get to work with our lawyers on interesting cases across a broad range of areas.
Generally, paralegals who have proven themselves to be successful will be offered and will progress to a training contract.
Other Professionals in our Firm
We must not ignore the wealth of talent we have in our firm in those of our people who are not lawyers but are the backbone of the firm and who may have other qualifications and who are, like us, professional people, such as in finance, management, consultantcy, compliance, IT and other areas.
We develop clear career options for such professionals, recognising the valuable contribution they continue to bring to the firm.
Our well-respected team covers most major areas of the Dispute Resolution world including commercial and business disputes, partnership and shareholder disputes, financial and banking litigation, insolvency related matters, professional negligence, and wills and probate disputes.
We are regularly involved in cutting edge high value disputes, many of which have an international element, and which include sectors such as the film and television industry, construction, banking, and property investment and development.
Each dispute requires a bespoke solution, sometimes aggressive, sometimes measured. Our aim is to resolve our client’s dispute as quickly and as cost effectively as possible.
The Department’s core work involves advising on the sale and disposal of commercial properties (for investors and owner occupiers), property development, property finance and refinance, and landlord and tenant work.
Our connections within the property and finance world, coupled with our understanding of legal issues, are highly valued by our clients.
We find practical commercial solutions, underpinned by a tenacious determination to get the deal done.
We offer a one stop shop for property services from acquisition and planning, through to construction, disposal and asset management.
Corporate & Business Law
Our work involves advising on a wide range of UK and cross-border corporate transactions including private mergers and acquisitions, shareholder agreements, joint ventures, corporate re-organisations, and corporate advisory work.
We have a proven track record in corporate law matters, acting for a wide range of clients, ranging from well established companies and financial institutions to early-stage businesses, partnerships, and high net worth individuals and investors.
Buying a house or flat is often one of the most important transactions in a person’s life. This Department deals with such transactions fully understanding that. We aim to build excellent relations with all those involved including clients, other solicitors, estate agents, lenders and brokers.
In addition to acting for people looking to move home, including the directors and shareholders of corporate clients, the Department represent clients referred from other departments within the firm, and professional developers and buy to let investors.
Our specialist experience in family law matters enables us to provide a highly personal service. Our aim is to help resolve the consequences of the breakdown of a marriage or relationship through discussion and negotiation, avoiding unnecessary and costly litigation if possible. We deal with divorce, separation, financial and property claims, domestic violence, and children custody and access. Pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements are also advised on and arranged.
We believe that this department will become one of the more significant departments in the firm in years to come. We are committed to investing and growing this department for a number of reasons. The demographics demonstrate an increasingly ageing but affluent population whose affairs are increasingly complex. There is an increase in demand for advice on how best to manage and structure such affairs, and effectively and tax efficiently pass on wealth to the next generation or for charitable purposes.
This is a multi-disciplinary and a very interesting area of the law. This department work closely with our Commercial Property and Residential Conveyancing Departments since much of people’s wealth is tied up in property.
Also, many directors and shareholders of our corporate clients require private client advice. At times, when a matter has become contentious, there is a need to work closely with Dispute Resolution colleagues.
We often work with other professionals such as accountants and financial advisors to help implement complex strategies.
Our Criminal Defence department is based in our offices in Kent. Its focus is largely on legally aided criminal defence work. We are on a number of duty solicitor schemes and Magistrates’ court schemes. We are recognised as one of the leading and largest criminal defence firms in Kent.
