Litigation & Dispute Resolution

Experience
Geoffrey is a highly experienced litigator specialising in contentious probate, complex civil disputes and appellate advocacy. A solicitor with Higher Rights of Audience, he regularly appears as an advocate in the County Court and High Court, and has also appeared before the Court of Appeal. He studied Philosophy and Law at Cambridge University, where he was admitted with an exhibitioner scholarship and awarded an MA, and later served as a Deputy District Judge for over 10 years on the London circuit.
Geoffrey has extensive experience advising on high-value and sensitive disputes, particularly in relation to probate and inheritance matters. His notable cases include representing the successful appellant in Sherrington v Sherrington, a leading Court of Appeal case concerning the presumption of knowledge and approval of a Will, and acting in Liverpool Victoria Insurance Company Limited v Zafar, where the Court of Appeal held that dishonest false statements by expert witnesses would ordinarily warrant a custodial sentence. More recently, he successfully represented a litigant in a probate costs dispute following a 15-day trial involving claims exceeding £1.2 million, resulting in the recovery of £600,000 and the dismissal of further liability, a decision upheld on appeal.
Known for his strategic and measured approach, Geoffrey supports clients through complex and often emotionally difficult disputes with clear, commercially grounded advice. He has also appeared on television commenting on legal issues and developments.
Personal
Outside of his legal practice, Geoffrey is dedicated to his family, including his three children and six grandchildren. He is also a trustee of a substantial charitable trust with assets exceeding £20 million, supporting initiatives focused on medical care and education.
