Tier 4 Visa Solicitors for Students

There are over 750,000 students who come to the UK to study each year – in higher and further education, in independent and language schools. Some come for short English language courses, others for PhDs at the frontier of scientific research.

There is currently no cap on the numbers of international students able to come to the UK to study, however an international student is required to have the correct requisite visa covering the duration of the student’s study in the UK. The visa the Student is required to have is Tier 4 General Student Visa.

Tier 4 – General Student visa

The Tier 4 General Student visa is part of the points-based system in the UK immigration route for migrants from outside of the European Economic Area (EEA). The category is open for students aged over 16 only, there is a separate category for children aged 4-16 who wish to come to the UK and attend an independent school to continue their education.

Under Tier 4 students need to score a total of 40 points for the student to be granted with the visa. The 40 points consist of;

  1. 30 points -for a full-time place on a course with an approved education provider.
  2. 10 points – for maintenance in the UK without recourse to public funds.

The education provider should provide you with a confirmation of acceptance of studies (CAS) once they have offered you a place on a course. This would be required for the Tier 4 visa application which cannot be made more than 6 months after you receive the CAS.

The earliest an international student can apply for a visa is 3 months before the start of their course.
